PETA embarrasses me beyond all words. They don't do anything to actually help animals (it was once shown that less than 1% of their yearly budget goes to any sort of animal welfare programs); they're just insane.

And they make people who are concerned about real animal cruelty/welfare issues look bad, and get taken less seriously.

*nods* It makes everyone look bad. I once read a blog comment that floated the idea that the current incarnation of PETA is actually funded and operated by the meat/fur industry, and that their antics are intended to get people to think of animal rights activists as loons. I shrugged it off, but you know, given the nonsense that PETA has pulled over the past years in particular, I wonder sometimes.

That's hilarious! If Bush had had one of their fly catcher thingies, he would have been laughed at for using it. The PETA folks are very sincere, but boy are they misguided.
